Among the paintings of the years following the settlement in Szentendre, the Crossroads (1983 – 85) interprets the artist’s sensitivity to monumentality and meditative contemplation in a concise manner, the features of which are also present in the paintings of the previous years in Zalaegerszeg. Human silhouette figures evoke silently and eternally the story of the suffering of Jesus Christ. One of the old religious practices of Christianity is being renewed, as the painter walked the passion as part of his work and in personal form this year. All of this fits into a special structure of thin brush strokes that span the entire image surface. The pictorial articulation, the coexistence of static and displaced figures, brings together certain moments of Christ’s saving salvation and the innermost, spiritually experienced mystery of passion. The historical and spiritual dimensions of each station, as well as their impact on the viewer, are suggestively combined in these images, supplemented by a quote from the book of the prophet Jeremiah.
