István Pálfy was born in 1951 in Ungvár, Ukraine. He is a painter and graphic designer. Studied at the University of Applied Arts. His masters: Attila Duncsák, Sándor Petky, Zoltán Bakonyi. This artist is a representative of the so-called “postmodern surrealism” in Transcarpathia. He uses the grotesque style to express his thoughts, often showing distorted female figures, puppets, clowns. He tries to express the difficulties he has experienced in his homeland and his country in a particularly humorous way. His graphics pose questions about the division of space and time at the intersection of the spiritual world and reality. His mythological figures are dominated by shrill, intense colors. His paintings often include symbols of musical instruments. Much of his artwork is inspired by the mysterious world of the circus and theater, and his images evoke the panopticon of memories. Within the framework of universal art, he is interested and influenced mainly by Western modern trends, including Hungarian contemporary art. The graphics by Béla Kondor, the paintings by Csontváry and Dali, and the poems by Endre Ady shaped his worldview.
